R-22 Refrigerant Phaseout: What You Need to Know


Older air conditioners still use the R-22 refrigerant, also commonly known as Freon®. While it remains an effective refrigerant, it has disastrous effects on the ozone layer. For this reason, the government is requiring that AC manufacturers phase out R-22 and replace it with other refrigerants.


You Can Keep Using Your Old AC

Even though the R-22 refrigerant phaseout in Collin County, TX is already in effect, there's no need to panic. As long as you keep up with maintenance and stay watchful for refrigerant leaks, you can continue using the old unit.
